Nicholas Roerich, one of the greatest contemporary painters. A Russian by birth, Roerich had settled in India with his wife Devika Rani, the first lady of Indian cinema. He was one of those who had put Bangalore on the international map in the field of contemprory art and what better way to pay tribute to him on his birth anniversary than celebrate art itself at his home, Bangalore.

Bangalore, the silicon valley of India, a place where cultures merge, a true cosmopolitan city was the venue of the the Bangalore International Art Festival. This ambitious week long festival opened on the 17th of October amidst much fanfare.

This festival brought together artists from not just Karnataka and India but from across the seas.The events were spread across the city. For the first time artists from various art forms were able to showcase their talent to the people of Bangalore.

For seven days Bangalore buzzed with the energy of art. The extravaganza carried on late into the night all these days.The purpose had been served, It brought people together.It created awareness of art and It helped develop an appreciation of the variety of forms of art. It sure was a good beginning.
